The Premiere Oncology Foundation, partnering with the Beckstrand Art Therapy program, present this exciting workshop. Cancer and Creativity introduces cancer patients and cancer survivors to varied art materials and creative art techniques used to help create hope, express uncertainties, and elaborate on issues of illness and life changes. Multiple methods of artistic expression will be explored, including collage papers and fabrics, acrylic paints, water colors, oils and drawing materials, and three dimensional materials such as clay and wood will be explored. Throughout the process participants will be encouraged to use art to express feelings, gain insight, search for new goals,and explore family dynamics and other pertinent themes. No ability or previous experience is necessary, only the willingness to use artistic expression as a route to discovery and healing.

Constructive feedback and group discussion about the artwork will follow the art making and foster insight and friendship.

ESTHER DREIFUSS-KATTAN, PHD, ATR, is an art therapist, psychoanalyst
and psychooncologist who has worked extensively with cancer patients/
survivors, is in private practice in Beverly Hills and is the author of Cancer
Stories: Creativity and Self repair.

This program is offered free of charge. However, the Premiere Oncology Foundation does not cover parking costs. Attendees may use the 2020 Santa Monica Boulevard building parking lot or metered parking on Broadway, one block south of the Santa Monica Boulevard.

This FREE Program is open to cancer patients currently in treatment and all cancer survivors ages 8-12, and 13-17. At Cancer and Creativity, participants will use art techniques to:

  • explore illness
  • elaborate on social challenges with family and peers
  • develop close friendships
  • foster hope and mold their future

The workshops will incorporate various art techniques including:
  • painting and drawing
  • multimedia
  • collage
  • assemblage
  • clay and wood sculpture

No ability or previous art experience is necessary, only the willingness to use artistic expression as a route to discovery and healing.
